DAKINE Blade Backpack - 1824 cu in

The DAKINE Blade is on the larger side for mid-size winter packs, with 1824 cu in of volume, but smaller than full-blown multi-day packs, making it perfect for big sled days, long summit ridges, and all-day peak bagging. Zippered side access is quick and easy. A clear map pocket keeps you headed in the right direction, and an external integrated shovel/snow tool pocket keeps necessary gear close by. Skiers love diagonal ski carry, so you're not kicking them as you boot up the mountain. Snowboarders appreciate vertical AND horizontal board carry options. These details make for comfortable backcountry touring: an insulated hydration sleeve for a water bladder, quick draw ice axe/shovel handle holsters, and compression straps for a nice, taut pack.

Bottom Line: Great for the fast and light crowd that prefers streamlined space for a dialed backcountry routine.

I like this pack a lot. It holds a lot of gear in all its nifty little compartments. My only complaint, and you don’t see it in the picture, is it has a ton of straps hanging all over it. Be prepared to do some cutting because they get annoying hanging everywhere. - Noxxy

This pack is awesome if you are going to use it for what it is meant to be used for. Which is not how I'm using it. I wanted a medium-sized top loading pack for day hikes and traveling. I got a fully loaded everything you could ever imagine snowboarding/skiing pack, which is what I expected and as close as I could get to what I wanted. All in all it’s well made, it has a lot of useful pockets and I really like it. It also fits my body. I'm rather petite but I've got a really long waist. Two drawbacks, its freaking heavy, and it doesn't expand much. But how can you beat an insulated sleeve for your CamelBak tube?! - Kara

This is a great pack. Has excellent features. Can be used by both on and off piste skiers/riders. Big enough to hold all equipment and small enough not to be to bulky. Design of the pack offers a great versatility. - medicruss

DC Phase Snowboard Boot - Men's

The DC Phase snowboard Boot for men looks and feels like your favorite pair of skate shoes. A synthetic leather upper with weight saving mesh panels is water resistant and tough enough for many seasons of snowboarding fun. The lightweight Standard liner has its own laces for extra support and the elimination of heel lift. Cast metal lace guides on the upper cuff make boot tightening an easy task. A gum rubber outersole grips with great board feel and will keep you upright on ice covered parking lots. All of the comfort and good looks of DC brand skate shoes can be found in the Phase snowboard boot.

Bottom Line: A snowboard boot for skateboarders.

Got these boots are a great value. Even with shipping costs, a very good deal compared to getting them in a shop here in Holland. Just got back from a long weekend Val d'Isere and the boots are great. Nice snug fit, warm and solid. And they look pretty good, if you ask me. Couldn't ask for anything more for this price. - intricate

Very comfy and perfect for those with slightly wider feet or a lower arch. These boots were a bargain, even with shipping costs to Australia, and they look good too! - mase

    Flow Team Binding

Advanced materials and convenient entry make up the lightweight Team binding from Flow. By reducing weight and offering advanced support the Team binding is for the rider who wants to ride faster and jump higher than they ever have before. Magnesium and carbon fiber are utilized to make this one of the lightest and stiffest bindings available. The carbon fiber highback has an amazing strength to weight ratio and offers unreal responsiveness. A one of a kind magnesium baseplate is extra stiff and keeps the weight down to lighten your entire set up. Flow's unique approach to snowboard bindings is complimented by the newly designed Power Strap found on the Team binding. Real time ease of entry and exit meets space age materials for unreal response and weight savings.

Bottom Line: Lighten your ride and increase your performance with the Team binding from flow.

These bindings are worth every penny. I have these and the Pro FR’s, and they are the best binding I have ever ridden. These have all of the advantages of Flows with none of the disadvantages (weight). They are light, very responsive and comfortable. They are also super customizable. One thing to know is that if you are going to customize them, do it in the comfort of your house, the pins used to keep the hardware in place are a pain to get off and on (the up side is that its nearly impossible lose your hardware). If you are looking for the best binding made, this is it.

    First Descent

    Release date: 9/2/2006
    Rating: M
Consumer Advice: Infrequent moderate coarse language
    Running time: 110 mins
    Director: Kemp Curley, Kevin Harrison
Cast: Terje Haakonsen, Shawn Farmer, Nick Perata, Terje Haakonsen, Shaun White

Documentary chronicles the rebellious, inspiring and sometimes controversial rise of snowboarding--as seen through the eyes of the snowboarders setting the standards and breaking the boundaries of this worldwide phenomenon. Film spotlights a handful of snowboarding’s early pioneers (including Shawn Farmer, Nick Perata and Terje Haakonsen) and some of the ultra-sponsored superstar phenoms at snowboarding’s current cutting edge (Shaun White and Hannah Teter) and literally takes them to the edge--the snow blanketed mountains of Alaska--where these five icons face some of the most challenging and hard-core natural terrain on the planet. Leading up to their first descent, the crew of five share their stories, comparing viewpoints, individual lifestyles, and unedited opinions on the evolution of snowboarding that began as a delinquent child of skiing and now stands as an international cultural movement that has permanently changed the face of winter sports.

At the absolute peak of freeride technology stands Salomon's most advanced deck, the Burner Snowboard. Using Salomon's Spaceframe construction, the Burner provides increased edge through a combination of cap and sidewall construction. The Zeolit sintered base makes the Burner fast in any snow conditions, but it likes powder the best. The tip and tail have been softened slightly to allow easier turn initiation and exit while the middle of the board remains very stiff, giving it solid stability when you're really haulin'. If big drops, open powder fields and steep couloirs are your favorite places to ride, then this is the board you should be strapping onto.

Bottom Line: Turn on the afterburners and rip all-mountain terrain on the Burner.

    Burton SL-8 Snowboard Boot

Bringing tomorrow's tech to today's freestyle riders, the Burton SL-8 Boot's minimalist design represents the ultimate in lightweight, efficient construction. Built around an articulated cuff design, the shell's upper and lower halves flex independently to create fluid forward flex, making the SL-8 as comfortable in the park as it is hitting kickers or riding soft snow in the backcountry. To minimize toe and heel drag Burton built the SL-8 around its own unique last to create a smaller footprint. The lightweight, low-profile outsole incorporates a hidden midsole for a lowered center of gravity, enhanced board feel and energetic power transfer. Though it's a pared down freestyle boot, don't assume the SL-8 is short on comfort. Burton's Speed Zone lacing system makes it easy to customize your fit and provides better heel lock than any other lacing system. The molded tongue is gel-lined, and Burton makes the Imprint 4 liner with Outlast adaptive technology; it will mold to your foot after a few days on the mountain, improving the fit and comfort.

Bottom Line: Advanced performance for serious freestyle riders.

    Japan: Hokkaido

Pros: Lift price, no crowds, good terrain, laid back patrol.

Cons: They need some selective tree removal, and attract more tree skiers boarders

Well what can I say...Niseko has always been my favorite resort but, we have hit Kamui a bunch of times in the last 2 years and Kamui rocks...

Price is right, way low, no crowds usually, great snow and ok terrain...The ski center has rocking music and the lifts too...The powder here can be really good sometimes as it is colder and drier here than Niseko...

One of the days we arrived it was snowing lightly but had snowed heavily all night... They hadn't groomed anything so anywhere I went for the first few hours was open field on untracked powder...Awesome... Well I think the Kamui guys know their stuff cause the runs got tracked out by the skiers and boarders sometime after lunch and the slopes were in good shape...they know how to save money and promote the stoke....

EVERYTIME I have been here, I have scored some good powder somewhere...

They are also way laid back as far as the patrol...I have seen them but never had problems with ducking the ropes and it seems to be pretty common here...WELL I HAVE SEEN THE PATROL BUT THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN ME MAYBE.....

BUT>>>I WANNA SAY RIGHT NOW!!!IF YOU DUCK THE ROPES BRAH, YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN TO GET YOUR A$$ BACK IN BOUNDS, THAT MEANS IF YOU BUST A LEG OR ARM AND YOU CAN DRAG YOURSELF, THEN DRAG YOURSELF IN BOUNDS, THEN USE YOUR CELL TO CALL FOR HELP...DONT SPOIL IT FOR EVERYONE ELSE!!!

So anything not cool with Kamui???

Not much but it is far away if you are coming from Sapporo or Kutchan... It's hard to get here by train as the nearest train station is faraway and no shuttles... Nowhere to stay overnight that is anywhere close to the resort and no other restaurants nearby.... Well, on the other hand these are the very things that make Kamui rock as far as no crowds and good vibe...

By the way I learned from one of my very successful students who lives in Tokyo but came from Asahikawa...He said Kamui went belly up before and the city of Asahikawa bought it and they are running the show there, which is why they have low price lift tickets and low frills services......
